MoIAT announces AED 14 billion industrial decarbonisation programme
The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology unveils a five-year framework targeting heavy industry, with low-carbon steel and aluminium pilots in Abu Dhabi and Khorfakkan.

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology said Tuesday that the AED 14 billion programme will direct concessional financing to projects that cut Scope 1 emissions in steel, aluminium, cement and petrochemicals. The first cohort includes six facilities operated by EGA, Emsteel and Borouge.
Officials briefing reporters said pilot projects in Khorfakkan and Mussafah will combine green-hydrogen feedstock with electrified furnaces, with the first low-carbon coils expected to ship in the second half of next year. The ministry said it will publish a public dashboard tracking emissions reductions on a per-facility basis.
Industry groups welcomed the move, while energy analysts cautioned that the programme's success will depend on the pace at which hydrogen production scales and on the willingness of off-takers in Europe and Asia to pay a premium for verified low-carbon material.
