Sharjah expands Arabic-language reading programme to 400 schools
Sharjah Book Authority's school programme adds 180 new partner schools across the seven emirates this academic year.

The Sharjah Book Authority said its in-school Arabic reading programme will operate in 400 schools next academic year, up from 220, reaching an estimated 180,000 students. The expansion follows a federal push to lift reading hours and library use among public-school students.
Under the programme, schools receive curated Arabic-language libraries, teacher training and an annual visiting-author calendar. Independent evaluations published last year showed a measurable lift in reading comprehension scores at participating schools.
A Sharjah official said the authority is also piloting an audio-reading track for students with dyslexia, in partnership with a local accessibility non-profit.
