Pacific climate talks pivot toward adaptation financing
Small island states press donor governments and multilaterals for predictable adaptation finance.

Pacific Island Forum delegates pressed donor governments and multilateral lenders on Tuesday for more predictable adaptation finance, calling for multi-year commitments tied to specific resilience indicators rather than annual ad-hoc disbursements.
Delegations from Fiji, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands led the push, supported by sympathetic statements from several African and Gulf states. A senior UAE official attending as an observer signalled support for the principle of multi-year commitments while stopping short of new bilateral pledges.
Observers said the negotiations would feed into a draft text to be tabled at the next major climate conference.
